K Bhavani is based in Singapore and has extensive experience in emergency planning and response. Her roles within the Government of Singapore ranged from Director of Emergency Preparedness, Head of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, to Head of Media Relations at the Ministry of Defence. Over the years in the public sector, she was also responsible for national level planning for crisis communications, ensuring a coordinated whole-of-government approach in handling various crises scenarios.
As a senior government communicator, she was involved in many national level crises including the hijack of SQ117, the crash of SilkAir 185, the SQ006 crash, the SARS crisis, the H1N1 crisis and the crisis in Singapore arising from the Fukushima nuclear incident.
Bhavani is a widely admired speaker and trainer on emergency response and public relations. Alongside work with her own consultancy, she is an associate trainer at the Civil Service College of Singapore, Singapore Management University Academy, Singapore Business Federation, the Marketing Institute of Singapore and at Nanyang Technological University. Bhavani holds a degree in Business Administration (NUS), a Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, United Kingdom and a Master of Arts (Mass Communications) from the Oklahoma City University, USA.
Bhavani is fluent in English, Tamil and Malay.
